These are part of the clingfish family, a group with flattened heads and a single dorsal fin at the rear. The pelvic fins are modified to form a sucker on the underside. The fish is variable in colour with pinks and reds and a conspicuous blue spot between the eyes.
Found mainly on sheltered shores in the lower shore where it clings to the underside of stones and rocks. They are carnivorous feeding on a variety of small invertebrates. After two years they mature and lay sheets of yellow eggs under stones. They may live for 4 years. They live on the south and west coast of the UK.
